Yes. A condo or apartment party room can work for a mobile laser tag birthday when the building allows the activity and the layout suits the group. GAMEYARD reviews the proposed space and event details before confirming it.

For families without a backyard, that opens up a birthday option close to home: a coached activity brought to your building, with room in the celebration for friends, food and cake.

How the game works in a party room

GAMEYARD brings handheld infrared taggers, sensors and portable obstacles. Our crew sets up the agreed playing area and shows the children how to use the equipment.

Coaches lead supervised rounds with clear objectives and boundaries. Players register tags on each other’s sensors, and the activity is non-contact, with no projectiles. You host the rest of the celebration while we run the laser tag.

The setup starts with the space available. Fixed furniture, doorways and the areas needed by other guests all help determine where play can take place.

How much space do you need?

Our laser tag birthday location guide gives a general starting point: about 1,000 square feet can work for around 16 players, depending on the layout. A furnished party room still needs its own assessment.

Walk through the room as it will be used on the day. A kitchen counter, pool table or fixed sofa takes space out of the possible playing area. Movable tables may offer more flexibility, provided the building permits you to move them and there is somewhere suitable to put them.

Think about the room in three parts:

Part of the room What needs to fit
Playing area The agreed equipment layout, boundaries and room for players to move.
Space for guests People watching or waiting, younger siblings, coats, bags and refreshments.
Access routes Clear paths to entrances, exits and washrooms, kept outside active play.

This helps explain why two rooms with the same advertised size can offer very different options for a birthday.

Keep the building’s occupancy limit separate from the number of players taking part in a round. Adults and non-playing guests also need to be included when checking the building’s limit. Larger playing groups may use rotations, with the arrangement depending on the room and event plan.

If the room is too restricted, our guide to indoor laser tag venue options explains alternatives.

What to ask the building before booking

Describe the activity clearly to the person responsible for room bookings: GAMEYARD would bring portable equipment and coaches to run structured, non-contact laser tag.

Ask whether the activity is permitted and whether the room will be reserved for your group’s exclusive use. Find out if residents need to pass through it to reach another amenity. Shared hallways, lobbies and stairwells should remain outside the game.

Gather any conditions covering outside providers, furniture, floor protection, noise, music and food. If the building requests insurance documents, send GAMEYARD the exact requirements so they can be addressed before you finalize the booking.

The building confirms its permission and room availability; GAMEYARD confirms whether the proposed activity space is suitable.

Plan the game and cake around the same room

Decide where refreshments and non-playing guests will be while rounds are running. In a suitable layout, food and seating can occupy a separate area. If both uses need the same floor space, discuss finishing play before setting out tables for cake.

That changeover needs time, including moving furniture where permitted. It also needs a place for guests to wait while the room is rearranged.

The birthday service includes 90 minutes of coached play. Your room reservation also needs to accommodate equipment access, setup, food or cake time, pack-down and the building’s cleanup requirements. Confirm the full access window with GAMEYARD before reserving the room.

In a residential building, access may involve visitor parking, concierge check-in, loading arrangements or an elevator booking. Establish when the crew can reach the room with equipment, and arrange a host contact who can meet them.

Who handles what?

GAMEYARD reviews the activity space and handles the laser tag equipment, setup, rules briefing, coached play and equipment pack-down.

You select, book and pay for the room directly. You also arrange building access, refreshments, decorations and any adult supervision needed outside active play. Room rental and any building charges are separate from GAMEYARD’s service price. Furniture arrangements and room cleanup remain part of your agreement with the building.
